[ARCHIVED] Critical Areas Ordinance Public Hearing

On May 11th, during the first reading of the Critical Area regulatory update (CAO), the City Council opted to hold a public hearing to hear additional public testimony on the CAO. They have scheduled the public hearing for June 8th at 7pm in Council Chambers.

The below link is to Ordinance # 09-2729 and Exhibit A which includes the new CAO language. Also included under news and announcements is the staff report and the Planning Commission’s recommendation.

Background
Planning Commission. The original staff draft of the CAO was submitted to the Planning Commission in August of 2008. The Planning Commission held a total of 12 meetings, including 2 public hearings over a 9 month period before they were satisfied that the resulting changes to the CAO warranted their recommendation to the City Council for approval.

City Council. The City Council has had three (3) worksessions addressing the CAO update. The first was a worksession held jointly with the Planning Commission on December 18, 2008. The second was on May 4th with a follow up worksession on May 11at 6pm. That evening the Council heard a first reading of the CAO proposal and set a public hearing for June 8th.

The City Council has set this final public hearing on the CAO because they believe that the City should provide additional opportunities for the community to review the CAO document and provide public comment. Please take the time to send written comments to the City Council via mail (322 H Street, Blaine WA 98230) or email (tgalvin@cityofblaine.com), or come to the public hearing on June 8 and talk to them directly. They want to hear from you.
