With an approximate population of 5,075, the City of Blaine is located at the northwest corner of the State of Washington on the United States and British Columbia, Canada Border. The City of Blaine offers small-town charm and a world class location. Blaine enjoys the benefits of being located 35 miles south of Vancouver, Canada, and 110 miles north of Seattle. Situated on Drayton Harbor, Blaine has access to the San Juan and Gulf Islands for boating, fishing, and sailing. To the east is Mount Baker Ski Resort and Mount Baker National Forest that provides many hiking and backpacking trails, fishing lakes, hunting, and back country skiing. It is also home to the highly ranked Semiahmoo Golf Course designed by Arnold Palmer, and Semiahmoo Resort and Spa.
Blaine is a council–city manager form of government. The Police Chief will lead a department currently comprised of eleven (11) FTE commissioned officers, and two (2) FTE and one (1) PT non-commissioned administrative employees. Under the general direction of the City Manager, the Police Chief will perform and manage the planning, organizing, directing, and supervision of the Police Department. The Police Chief must provide leadership, mentoring, training, and direction for the Police Department and its employees, as well as leadership in the community.
