[ARCHIVED] Experience Everything Maritime! Saturday and Sunday Aug 3 and 4.

Come early on Saturday to join in the 5k Run to the Border and then stop off at the Community Center to enjoy a pancake breakfast served 8-11 am. Have a merry old time down at the Blaine Harbor Boating Center, strolling through exhibits, and an arts and crafts fair from 10-4 pm both days. Kids will have fun with games, crafts, and a scavenger hunt!

On Saturday, Kid's 7-12 can also participate in Pirate Daze sponsored by NW Parks and Rec District # 2. For a $10 registration, they will make their own pirate costume, travel the high seas aboard the Plover and hunt for buried treasure, listen to pirate stories and learn sea shanty songs. Preregistration is required by Friday, August 2. For more information go to www.nwpark&rec.org or call: (360) 656- 6416.

This year’s 12th annual Prestigious George Raft Race will commence at 1 pm Saturday at the Blaine public boat launch and will conclude at the Blaine Boating Center visitor dock. Participants paddle homemade rafts built from recycled floatable materials. This event is modeled in part from Devonshire’s River Lyn annual raft race that has taken place in England since the middle ages. All are welcome to join in the raft race or just watch the excitement as spectators. The first place winner will take home bragging rights and a one-year ownership of the coveted Prestigious George Raft Race Trophy.

Kids and Adults dressed in their pirate best can enter the pirate costume contact at 2 pm to have a chance to win a bounty of prizes! Take a ride on the historic Plover Ferry to Semiahmoo Spit both Saturday from 10-6 pm and Sunday from 12-8 pm. On Saturday, finish the day by enjoying the movie "Hook" under the stars at 9:00 pm at Blaine Marine Park.

On Sunday, the tall ships Lady Washington & the Hawaiian Chieftain return this year with dockside tours and sails. Kids of all ages will go back to times of yore and test their sea legs aboard these magnificent ships. For tour and sailing information: www.historicalseaport.org. The fun continues with exhibits, an arts and crafts fair, kids activities, Plover ferry rides, and boat displays. Bring your pets, dressed up in costume or to show off their latest tricks, for a chance to win a prize in the pet contest at the Blaine Boating Center at 1 pm! Also on Sunday at 2 pm, Peace Arch Park will feature a free concert of maritime music by the The Shifty Sailors. For more information go to www.peacearchpark.org or call: 360-332- 8221.
