About Animal Control

The City of Blaine provides animal control and rescue services through its contract with Whatcom Humane Society (WHS). Services provided by WHS to the residents of Blaine include:

  • Picking up stray, injured, and dead animals.
  • Transporting animals either to their owner if identified in the field, to the shelter to be impounded, or to a veterinarian for medical treatment if the WHS staff veterinarian is not available.
  • Providing 24-hour emergency rescue services for any animal in need.
  • Investigating and enforcing animal control regulations, including court appearances.
  • Investigating cruelty and neglect complaints and filing of infractions and criminal complaints with the Blaine Police Department for violations of Blaine Municipal Code.
  • Providing an animal advocate at community events, low-cost vaccination, license clinics, and neighborhood gatherings.
